How To Become A Good Freelance Content Writer
If you are looking to begin a career as a freelance content writer, you may be a little confused as to how to go about it. It isn't the easiest business to get into to, but once you do, you will always be able to find work. So what makes a god content writer? How can you make sure you stand out? As a content writer myself - and I like to think a pretty good one - I have a number of tips to help you become great at what you do. Here are some of them (but not all of them because I don't want your competition).
- Get to know the website's style -
- As a freelance content writer, you will have to write for many different websites in many different styles.
- You should familiarize yourself with each website's style by reading some of the previously material published. One or two articles will do, you don't need to read a whole back catalogue.
- Keep to your deadline -
- Pretty much every website you write for is going to give you a deadline. It is essential that you turn your work in on or before the date you have been given.
- I have always tried to have my work done the day before the deadline. This way, you leave yourself with time to look over everything before submitting it.
- Keep to your word count -
- Like a deadline, most websites you'll write for will give you a word count; it is not a good idea to go over it and expect the editor to cut it down.
- Try to avoid writing anything that seems like it was simply written to fill up your word count, it is really, really, really, really bad. Really.
- Sign up for freelance websites -
- You should remember to sign up for every freelance website you can as it will increase your chances of being hired.
- If you are a new freelance content writer, it may take some time before you lane a gig on one of these sites. Be patient, you will find something eventually.
- Put something of yourself into your work -
- When writing in one style, you should never lose your own voice. Find a way to make the article recognizable as your work.
- It's no fun to just write exactly how you've been told. You might make more money, but where is the art?
